Committee members, nine guests including Councillors, a Member of Partliament, the press

and a PCSO, together with forty-six Association members and six non-members

1 INTRODUCTION

The Chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting and especially thanked representatives from

Local and District Councils, local police and Parliament for attending. In particular, he

mentioned Douglas Carswell MP, and Councillors Terry Allen, Giles Watling and Iris Johnson all

of whom would be speaking later. He also thanked the ladies who had given their time to supply

tea or coffee, and hoped everyone had enjoyed it. Then he thanked the Committee members,

introduced those present and outlined their roles, ie Len Brooks (President), Patricia Marino

(Vice Chairman who dealt with youth issues and membership, together with representing the

FRA on the Neighbourhood Action Panel), Jeanette Phillips (Honorary Secretary who dealt with

administration, and was involved with the production of the Newsletter and updating the

website), June Stearn (Assistant Secretary/Membership Secretary), Charles Harrison

(Chairman of the Planning Team), Pat Batley (Newsletter Editor and Planning Team member),

Colin Knights who was also Chairman of the Friends of Frinton Theatre, Peter Leaman who

dealt with environmental issues and Gillian Sanford who covered health issues and was also

FRA representative with the Chamber of Commerce and on the Neightbourhood Action Panel.

He explained that three further members of the Committee were unable to be present because

of family commitments. In particular, he thanked the Secretary for helping him undertake his

role and Pat Batley for the production of a very interesting Newsletter.

He then described the aims of the Association as being to maintain the ambience, atmosphere

and environment of Frinton, whilst at the same time admitting progress and change, but only if

they were for the betterment of the town. He pointed out that members would have seen in the

Newsletter that FRA had joined the National Organisation of Residents’ Associations which

collectively represents interests to regional and national authorities, and monitors major issues

such as planning, licensing, safety and policing.

He pointed out that the Agenda for the meeting was on page 57 of the Newsletter, not page 5,

due to a printer’s error, and then read out the Agenda in case people were not able to find it.

Patricia Marino explained that a new delivery arrangement was being tried out with this issue of

the Newsletter and asked anyone who had not received their Newsletter to add their name and

address to a list at the back of the room.
