The McGrigor Hall
(formerly
the WI Hall)
A new Frinton Women’s
Institute Hall was opened in October 1934 by Viscountess Byng of Vimy.
The WI have always invited
other organisations and groups to use the hall as it has a fully equipped stage
and is adaptable for many other purposes.
However, with the
enforcement of new regulations concerning the disabled, it became apparent that
the hall could not continue to be let for other than WI activities.
Although Frinton has a
community centre about a mile from the town, this was too far for many people
to walk and with such an infrequent bus service, it was decided to form a hall
management committee and make the WI Hall a community hall.
It was felt necessary to
give the hall a new name and being as one of our resident’s mother was a
founder of this branch, the current name was adopted in her honour.
An appeal was launched in
2006 to raise funds to install new toilet facilities, complete with disabled
access, and a permanent ramp up to the front of the hall. This was very well supported by grants, and
donations from various groups, organisations and individuals to all of whom we
are very grateful.
Our latest main objective is
to update the kitchen and to have the hall used by as many people as possible,
with affordable hire charges which will meet the running costs and maintain the
building in good repair.
The Management Committee is
at present made up of representatives of the WI, Frinton Summer Theatre and
Saxon Theatre, but there is always a warm welcome for anyone who would like to
come along and take part.
If you have an event, or
would like to hire the hall for any occasion, please contact Ian on 0796 748
6726 or Ann on (01255) 671995.
We look forward to welcoming you.
